Ronnie Fieg is arguably the most famous name in sneaker designs that isn’t an athlete. There is a good reason for that. His designs with brands like Asics have brought them into the spot light with popping colors and premium materials. He has been hinting his next project for weeks with the hashtag #ECP or East Coast Project. The full details haven’t been released but it appears to be focused on the opening of his popular Kith retail concept in Miami. There are said to be 30 products dropping in the collection with the most hyped being the above pair of Asics GL3s with pretty obvious inspiration. The first of the duo is a Dolphins color make up of similar blue to the Mint Leafs but with those famous orange highlights. The second is a plush suede royal and orange colorway that seems to be a Knicks inspiration. Being the hypemaster he is Ronnie has also posted a picture of some no show, Kith branded, Stance socks that pair up with the Dolphins colorway. One can assume there will also be a pair to match the Knicks colorway. A Just Us beach towel is also in the mix adding to that beach theme. If I were guessing I would say a line of crews, tshirts, hats, and jackets will release alongside each shoe. I could also see the Miami iterations being a Miami exclusive but again no official word is known. Are you excited for this collection? Take a look at a few more pics after the jump and comment below!

Nike Roshe Run ID – AVAILABLE

The Nike twitter had been hinting at it all weekend but its finally here. The Nike Roshe Run ID is available on Nike store. You can design the regular version HERE for $110 and the Premium Suede version HERE for $120. I played around with both versions a little bit and really like the options they made available. There are both brighter and toned done colors and you can customize the overlay, toe, lining, swoosh, out sole, tongue/heel loops, and of course the laces. I messed around and made both a Salmon Toe and a Rose Gold inspired version with the Salmon Toe being mesh and the Rose Gold the premium suede. Given that the Roshe has been arguably the most popular singular silhouette for Nike the past year I am sure we will see plenty of examples of these in months to come. Do you plan to make a pair? Let’s hear about your design in the comments below!
New Balance 1300 by Ronnie Fieg “Salmon Soles”

Today we take a look at the sneaker world’s most popular collaborator Ronnie Fieg’s newest project with New Balance. Not a ton of details are known about the release yet but Ronnie just put up a front view on Instagram stating “salmon soles”. The shoe features the premium materials and color pop we have come to expect from his releases and the 1300 model is the lucky one to get “fiegstepped” this time. The 1300 is a premium model and Ronnie’s self proclaimed favorite model of all time. He used the steel blue colorway as the inspiration for his last New Balance collab 999. Sitting on a salmon colored sole the upper features a primarily navy suede upper with a cove blue logo hit. A white midsole and liner add a little contrast and complete the look. After being told that the “N” logo is indeed a cove blue I have come up with some speculation as to the design inspiration. Given the time of year and the colors being used I feel this shoe is a tribute to Fieg’s past releases of Cove and Salmon Toe GL3s. Both shoes dropped in September of 2010 and 2011 respectively. Given the past pattern of Kith releases it can be expected that this new iteration will drop in the next 2 weeks or so. Is a Kithstrike on the way? Stay tuned to @kithset and @ronniefieg on twitter and be ready!

Thanks to a gentleman by the name of Ronnie Fieg, Asics collaborations have been majorly in the spotlight of sneaker culture of late. The interesting thing about that is that Asics has been killing the collaboration market overseas for years. Today we take a look at another in a long saga of amazing collabs. The Asics Gel Lyte III Cervidae is a shoe created in honor of Woei’s 5th anniversary. Woei is a Dutch sneaker boutique located in Rotterdam, Netherlands. For this makeup Woei chose the Cervidae, a deer found in Europe, as its inspiration. The shoes are covered in brown and tan suedes with navy stripes. Special golden logo hits are featured on the rear side and back heel. Sitting on white midsoles and a matching tan outsole these are stunners to say the least. Set to release in Rotterdam on June 30th and Worldwide July 7th the collaboration is sure to be an international hit. Take a look at the pics below and let me know your thoughts!
Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999?
Posted: March 28, 2012 in BlogTags: collaborations, des moines, drop des moines, dropdsm, kith, kithnyc, new balance, new balance 999, ronnie fieg, sneakerhead, sneakers, streetwear
Looks like Mr. Fieg is at it again. This time with a different brand. We all know Ronnie Fieg and his Kith locations for sick Asics releases like the Salmon Toes, Mint Leafs, Rose Golds, & Coves but based on this recent pic it looks like there is a new (sorta) brand on the horizon. Just moments ago Ronnie posted the following photo to his Instagram titled “Uh-oh spaghetti-O’s”. From the looks of it this is the early stages of Ronnie designing his own New Balance 999. This is a great model probably mostly remembered for last year’s Concepts “Kennedy” release. It has lots of different subtleties that are perfect for customization and premium materials the Kith owner is known for with his designs. Ronnie isn’t a stranger to New Balance as he celebrated the opening of Kith with a very limited run of instore only New Balance 574s that are also pictured below. Only time will tell what this release could or couldn’t be but I know I will be watching!

Best DROPS of 2011
Posted: January 11, 2012 in UncategorizedTags: asics, BEST OF, best of 2011, cncpts, des moines, dropdsm, jordan, new balance, nike, packer shoes, retro, ronnie fieg, sneakerhead, sneakers
Well I have been slacking a bit compared to other sites but you gotta do a best of list! I took a lot into account when making this list such as style, hype, and more. I didn’t get to cop all the DROPs on my list but there is definitely a leaning towards ones that I did. Here it goes:
10. Jordan XI Retro Concords
What can I say, I bought into the hype a little. I have never been a giant fan of the XIs as my Jordan love mostly stops at VIIIs but this is just an iconic shoe. The first of the XIs that Mike wore these are neck snappers. Featuring a primarily white make up with the toe wrapped in black patent these sneakers literally caused riots. Moms were leaving babies in their cars, people were pepper spraying each other, and mall doors were broken down. When a sneaker release makes the 6 o’clock news on every major news network they have to be on your best of list!
9. Packer Shoes x Reebok Court Victory Pump – French Open
New Jersey’s Packer Shoes has always had a tendency to do collaborations a little different than others and this shoe is no exception. This one is actually part of a 4 shoe pack of Reebok Court Victory Pumps called the Grand Slam pack. Each shoe in the pack features some sort of ode to the signature of the tennis major tournaments. For the French Open version they just took it to the extreme. The shoe features a fairly typical 90s makeup of the Court Victory with one not so subtle difference……clay splatter all over. IMO this was just genius in design and a perfect tribute to the clay courts of the French Open. I don’t have a pair yet but I am not sure how much longer that will last.
8. Jordan Retro III White Cement
Iconic. The Jordan III is simply an historical shoe and this color way was the first to release back in 1988 when Jordan and Tinker Hatfield changed the world forever. Tumbled leather, elephant print, and the first Jumpman logo this one had it all. Jordan also wore this shoe for his iconic free throw line slam dunk contest dunk that defined a generation. This is a classic that would sell well if they released it every year and while you may see another iteration of it on my list, it had to be here. If Mike calls it one of his all time favorites who am I to argue?
7. Nike Air Trainer SC II Retro – Infrared & Citron
Lucky #7 on the list is the Nike Air Trainer SC II in the 2 original color ways. These are another release that hasn’t been seen in forever….21 years to be exact. The trainer series has always been a big seller for Nike since the days of Bo Jackson turning heads in multiple sports. We saw a few other DROPs of this shoe in new colors in 2011 but the OG heads wanted the, well, OGs. DROPPING in both the citron and infrared color palettes these were a big pleaser to a lot of sneakerheads who remember the days of Bo Knows or even Mars Blackmon but surprisingly weren’t as big of a hit with the younger heads. Sad in theory but great if you missed them originally both of these colors are still available in a full size run on nike store at a significant discount.
6. Ronnie Fieg X Asics Gel Lyte III Leatherbacks
If you were doing a best of list of sneaker collaborators Ronnie Fieg would be at the top of a lot of people’s lists and this shoe definitely has something to do with it. Featuring absolutely buttery leather and smooth suede this shoe is a site. Teased over and over again the hype was strong when Ronnie DROPPED this shoe back in November and I was lucky enough to score a pair. While not as much of a contrast as the Salmon Toes seen later on the list these still have that Ronnie “splash” as he likes to say. The bright blue sole really stands out against the somewhat muted upper and depending on your lace choice can be a bright or subtle neck breaker around the world.
5. New Balance Made in America M574 American Tall Tales Pack
Bringing in the midpoint on the list is actually a pack of 2 shoes from New Balance. The American Tall Tales Pack of M574s paid tribute to folk legend in America by way of Paul Bunyan and his faithful companion Babe the Blue Ox. The former featured a brown and creme makeup of smooth suede with a gum outsole that really makes them shine. The kicker on this first shoe was the red and black plaid inner liner reminiscent of a lumberjack flannel like Paul Bunyan wore. The second shoe of the pack features an all over suede in several shades of blue for obvious reasons. These made the list for style but they also are the only shoe on this list that was made in the USA. I’d like to see more brands bring some manufacturing back home since most of them are designed here.
4. Jordan Retro III Black Cement
If you are reading this list you bought this shoe. Greatest sneaker design ever in my opinion and there is just not much more to say about them. The black tumbled leather. The elephant print. The visible air unit. The Jumpman logo. TIMELESS
3. Jordan VII Retro Bordeaux
There were a ton of great Jordan brand retros in 2011 and more will be featured on this list but I had to give top billing to the Retro VII Bordeaux. This colorway just screams late 80s to early 90s and this year was the first retro since the original DROP in 1991. These shoes were on MJs feat when he was featured in another famous MJs video for “JAM” and feature all over suede with a crazy color combo not previously seen on basketball shoes at the time. The Bordeaux was an interesting release as a lot of the kiddos who weren’t born when the originals came out passed on them. To those that are in the know and actually grew up watching the GOAT play though, these were a no brainer.
2. CNCPTS x New Balance 999 Kennedy
Boston’s CNCPTS takes the second spot on my list with a shoe that topped many people’s lists for 2011. No stranger to sneaker design with the Lobster SB runs of the past CNCPTS really did it right with the nautical theme on this New Balance 999. There is a reason every brand you can think of has done something nautical themed, it works. Featuring a red, white, blue, and tan palette, flag logos, and a custom liner these dropped back in April to critical acclaim. Even John Mayer was seen rocking a pair. I know I was on the phone all day trying to cop my pair with no luck. The 999 has seen other great collabs in the past and I am sure 2012 will bring us another!
1. Ronnie Fieg X Asics Gel Lyte III Salmon Toe
From the first time I saw a tweeted pic of these shoes I was in love. Something about the contrast of the salmon and the navy just POPS. Ronnie had quite the year in sneaker design as well as opening his Kith retail spots so it’s only appropriate that he topped this list. Premium materials and straight forward designs are his signatures and I am a fan of most of it. Props to Ronnie for topping many lists this year and I can’t wait to see what’s DROPPING in 2012!

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Leatherbacks – Release Friday!
Posted: November 16, 2011 in UncategorizedTags: asics, asics gel lyte iii, des moines, dropdsm, kith, leatherbacks, ronnie fieg, sneakerhead, sneakers
The time has finally come. The opening of Kith Manhattan was last week and marked by some special New Balance DROPs but I have been waiting for these forever. The Leatherbacks were originally previewed months ago and feature a similar but totally different look to the elusive salmon toes. For this DROP Fieg once again goes with the Asics Gel Lyte III and premium materials. These feature a buttery leather for most of the upper with some signature blue highlights that have become so common with Fieg’s designs. The part that really makes them pop in my opinion is the grey toe area which contrasts that high quality leather so well. These release Friday morning at 11am EST in Kith Manhattan with 40 individually numbered pairs releasing in store with the limited Good Wood boxes, wood dog tags, and a Kith matching tshirt. The remaining pairs will be online at the Kith website and are sure to sell out in minutes. I’ve got my calendar marked and reminder set for the DROP that’s for sure! Lets just hope my ISP doesn’t drop the ball like it did on me for the Salmon Toes. (photos courtesy of Vagrant Sneaker)
Ronnie Fieg Interview with The Shoe Game
Posted: September 29, 2011 in UncategorizedTags: asics, des moines, dropdsm, kith, ronnie fieg, salmontoe, sneakers, the shoe game
THIS IS A DIRECT REPOST OF A RONNIE FIEG INTERVIEW BY THESHOEGAME.COM. ALL RIGHTS TO THESHOEGAME.COM
Tomorrow, September 30th, is a big day for Ronnie Fieg. For years, Ronnie has been well-known for his work at New York footwear retailer, David Z. A few months ago, Mr. Fieg announced he was opening his own shop which he named KITH. Following the KITH news, people were immediately curious as to what was instore for RF’s future as a footwear designer and soon-to-be shop owner.
Being fully aware of all the questions out there, TSG caught up with Fieg for an in-depth interview about KITH Brooklyn. We discussed everything from Salmon Toes to the meaning of KITH to crashing servers, plus much more. The grand opening is tomorrow, so read our interview below to get the full scoop on KITH.
You worked with David Z for years, so how does it feel now that you’re stepping out on your own?
RF: It feels great man. I’m really blessed to be put in this position. You know, I started out there when I was 13 in the stock room; my passion really grew from there and I knew this was what I wanted to do. I thank David for the opportunity to grow there, but at this point I feel it’s necessary to take the next step. It’s a very exciting time for me.
When did you decide that you wanted to open your own retail space?
RF: I’ve always dreamed of having my own shop. I used to sketch out how my store would look on my notebook paper back in junior high, haha. I’ve thought about opening up a shop several times, however, just in the past few years has it become a real opportunity, and I am taking full advantage.
The name of the shop is KITH. Can you explain the meaning of KITH and why you chose that name?
RF: KITH is a part of “Kith and Kin,” which means friends and family. I dropped the Kin part because truthfully my friends are a part of my family. We also came up with the motto “Just Us,” because we really want people to feel like they’re a part of something and they’re along for the ride with us. It’s a true team effort.
With so many shops out there, what is going to set KITH apart from the others?
RF: I think the biggest mistake others make is that they identify themselves as a sneaker store, or a brown shoe store. I have a passion for footwear, period. I want to cater to the kid who wants a dope pair of sneakers, or the guy who wants to dress up and get a quality pair of brown shoes or boots as well. I think the most important thing is making sure the customer is getting more than what they pay for, I want people to walk out of KITH and feel they got their money’s worth.
People always see the final product, but they never see all the hard work that goes into projects like this. Can you tell us about some of the difficulties that you had to face while trying to bring KITH to fruition?
RF: If I started telling you about the shit we’ve had to overcome through this project, we’d be publishing this interview next July, haha. You know, it’s never easy to build anything in NYC, with all the restrictions and whatnot. But truthfully, you have to foresee all the difficulties that may arise opening up a shop, or two. Between the build out of the shops, logistics, buying product, and designing products, I really have had a lot on my plate. I am just trying to focus on having a great release this week, the website launching, and the shops up and running. There are always obstacles, but that will make the finished feel that much more rewarding.
The grand opening is Friday, September 30, 2011. What special things do you have planned for the grand opening of KITH?
RF: Well, the Salmon Toe is releasing that morning at 11 am EST, both in-store and online. That in itself is going to make this really special. I am really excited to show everyone the finished product of all the hard work at KITH Brooklyn. I also am having an Asics release/grand opening event with some of my closest friends within the industry, and the people that have played a part in where I am today. It’s going to be an amazing day.
Let’s talk about the Salmon Toe Gel Lyte III’s. We saw a sample a while back, but what made you decide to release them?
RF: The few people I showed when I first got the sample thought I was nuts for thinking of dropping them. After I released the photos, I got a petition about a week later with hundreds of names trying to convince me to put it in production. I knew at that point that I had a special shoe, but I wanted to wait until the right time to release them. The opening of KITH seemed to be the perfect time, and I am really excited about people’s reaction to the announcement.
A lot of people outside of New York want Salmon Toes, but some people still have a chip on their shoulder about the crashing of David Z’s server. Will the kithnyc.com server be able to handle the massive traffic without crashing?
RF: Man, people still hate me for the site crashing, huh? Haha. Let me start by saying, it is very hard for any site to handle as much traffic as we got for previous releases. With that said, we have made some SERIOUS upgrades to our servers so I am anticipating no issues (No promises.) We now understand the situation a little better, so we are preparing accordingly.
What about all the people located outside of the U.S.?
RF: I am in the beginning stages of this store, so I had a very tough time preparing for this. However, there will be some pairs available and we are taking the steps to make future releases more accessible internationally. People keep killing me over international shipping, but people don’t quite understand how difficult it is when your stock is selling out in 60 seconds. Logistics people, logistics.
While we’re talking about shoes, what footwear brands can people expect to see at KITH?
RF: Man, I don’t know where to start. As far as sneakers go we have Asics, New Balance, Puma, Polo, Adidas, Swear, Converse, Supra to name a few. In the brown shoe room we have Sebago, Florsheim, Dr. Martin, Sorel, Timberland, Abington, Boot company, Quoddy, Chippewa, Red Wing, Ralph Lauren, etc etc etc. Keep in mind, these are a few, there are way too many to name, but there is some amazing stuff coming in.
Will KITH carry other products besides footwear?
RF: We will be doing collaborative apparel and accessories as well. We have some amazing clothing coming in this winter with some great companies that I’ve worked with. To name a few we have Golden Bear, Four Stroke Denim, Pendleton, Quintin, Shades of Grey by Micah Cohen, and Oetzi. I have done footwear now for a while, but this is the stuff I have worked so hard on lately. I’m very eager to show people what we are dropping next. This is the next challenge for me.
Is there any KITH footwear collaborations in the works?
RF: I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but I definitely have a lot in the works. The boots I have coming in this fall are serious. I have my capsule line with Sebago, a few shoes with Caminando, Quoddy, and of course we are dropping some Asics as well. That’s just a few though, I don’t want to give to much away.
As you know, people look up to you and pay close attention to your every move. What advice do you have for those that desire to have their own shop one day?
RF: The biggest thing people don’t realize is how much goes into all of this. Most think I just started designing shoes, but as I said before, I have worked in every aspect of retail and I eventually worked my way to where I am now. I always say you can’t get from A-Z without the alphabet; there is just so much truth in that. There is no easy way to get to where you want to be. Put in the time and the effort and you will reach your goals. Stay hungry, and persevere.
At the end of the day, people should know that KITH… will continually give you more than what you pay for, this is family, it’s “Just Us.”
